Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the chief content officer at World Wrestling Entertainment, made his first public comments after Vince McMahon resigned Friday from the board of WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, in the wake of a former employee’s lawsuit accusing McMahon of sex trafficking, sexual assault and physical abuse. At a news conference after WWE’s “Royal Rumble” event Saturday in St. Petersburg, Florida, Levesque, McMahon’s son-in-law, said he had not read the lawsuit and had no prior knowledge of it, adding he does not “want to get bogged down into that.” Levesque said he’s doing “everything possible” to ensure employees aren’t taken…

In Gaza, a strip of land fast becoming a wasteland, few international aid bodies can still operate. The United Nations is one of them. Its Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNRWA, was founded in 1949, working in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, caring for the 700,000 Palestinians who were forced or fled from their homes with the creation of the state of Israel. Now, says the agency’s head, the lifesaving assistance on which two million Gazans rely could be about to end, as several Western governments suspend their funding over allegations that some UNRWA…

Japan’s Moon lander has resumed operations after being shut for a week due to a power supply issue. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said it re-established contact with the lander Sunday night, indicating that the glitch had been fixed. Its solar cells are working again after a shift in lighting conditions allowed it to catch sunlight, the agency said. It could not generate power when it landed on 20 January as the solar cells pointed away from the sun. With the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (Slim) spacecraft, Japan became only the fifth country to achieve a soft touchdown on…

China has tightened its financial industry rules as the government tries to halt a deepening sell-off in the world’s second largest economy. Nearly $6tn (£4.7tn) has been wiped off Chinese and Hong Kong stocks since their most recent peak three years ago. The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) says the measures will create “a fairer market order”. Under the new rules limits will be put on so-called “short-selling” from Monday. Short selling is when a trader bets that a share or other asset will fall in value. They borrow the asset and sell it immediately with the aim of buying…

The ban is expected to be introduced across the UK, the government said. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to explain the plans during a visit to a school on Monday. “As any parent…

Three US troops have been killed and dozens injured in a drone attack on a US base near Jordan’s border with Syria. US President Joe Biden said the attack was carried out by “radical Iran-backed militant groups”. He added: “We shall respond.” It is the first time that a strike has killed US troops in the region since Hamas’s 7 October attack on Israel. Jordan says the attack took place in Syria, not inside Jordan. There have been other attacks on US bases in the region but so far there have been no casualties reported by the US army. It…

Debt-laden Chinese property giant Evergrande has been ordered to liquidate by a court in Hong Kong. Judge Linda Chan said “enough is enough” after the troubled developer repeatedly failed to come up with a plan to restructure its debts. The latest decision is likely to send further ripples through China’s financial markets at a time when authorities are trying to curb a stock market sell-off. China’s property sector contributes roughly a quarter…

Photographer Allison Hunter interviewed in August 2023 for a position taking photos of an historical archive’s collections. During the conversation, she asked the hiring panel for feedback – how did she stack up against other candidates? The question was not well-received. “Shaming is a bit heavy to say, but it was a little like scolding,” says Hunter, who is based in New York City. “‘Oh no, we wouldn’t tell you that’,” she recalls the panelists saying. “‘Just know that your resume has gotten you this far, and this is a very competitive position’.” She regretted asking. “I thought, ‘Oh, this…
